Oil Springs

As the smallest municipality in the County of Lambton, we have some pretty big achievements to be proud of…

We were 150 years old in 2015 and as a municipality that is full of pride because of our heritage, we are delighted to be celebrating this rare milestone as that makes us older than the country of Canada itself!  The Village of Oil Springs was incorporated by resolution of the County of Lambton effective January 2, 1865.  As well, we are very proud of our oil history, prior to the Village being incorporated, the discovery of the first commercial oil well in North America by James Miller Williams in 1858 took place.  This event and other discoveries denote Oil Springs as the birth place of the modern oil industry in the world.
